Preventing Interior Window Condensation

Gorgeous Vinyl WindowsCondensation forms on the inside glass of windows when there is an excess of humidity in the home.  The warmer the air, the more moisture it will retain.  When the warm air in your home comes in contact with the cold glass, it is cooled and condensation forms.

To prevent condensation from forming you’ll need to control the humidity in your home and keep the air moving.  Keep this in mind especially as it gets colder outside.

Things you can do to prevent window condensation:

  • Use the exhaust fans in your bathroom, kitchen, and laundry room
  • Make sure gas burners and the clothes dryer are vented to the outdoors
  • Stop using humidifiers
  • Use dehumidifiers to reduce the moisture in the home if you have humidity problems
  • Open fireplace dampers so that the air containing extra moisture can escape
  • Air out the house for a few minutes every day
  • Make sure that the areas for ventilation in the attic and basement are open and large enough
  • Use a ceiling fan to keep the air circulating
  • Check all windows and doors for smooth operation and airtight seals
