They say you only have one chance to make a good first impression.  Your entry door is that first impression for your home because it’s one of the main focal points of your house.  People see the door when looking for an address, it’s also where we enter so it’s the first thing people see when visiting.  A beautiful front door can really help your house stand out on the block and it adds a lot of value to your home.

So that leads us to our question: How do you know when it’s time to replace your door?  Most likely the first thing we think about is how worn out it is.  Many older wood doors will warp and crack over time.  Steel doors also wear out due to peeling.  If your door looks a bit beaten up you might want to consider upgrading.

Another very important consideration when thinking about a replacement is security.  Does your current door have a window that if broken out could give easy access to a thief to unlock the door from the inside?  Lower windows offer thieves this opportunity and should be avoided.

Another big reason to replace a front door is if the current one is letting too much air in making it an efficiency issue.  This is often a problem with old doors and this alone makes getting a new door a wise decision.

And of course, there is always the issue of appearance.  Do you like your front door?  Does it add to your homes appearance?  Does it increase appeal?  This is especially true if selling your home is in the plan.

Don’t forget to think about the option of having a storm door.  A storm door will protect your door from the elements and help with efficiency.  In the summer, the windows can be replaced with a screen to allow the air to circulate through while keeping the bugs out.

If the decision is to replace, then do your homework, there are a lot of options, wood, steel, fiberglass, aluminum, etc.  If you want to skip the research phase but still want the perfect door for your home, call us and we’ll point you in the right direction.
