Spring Cleaning Naturally – Windows

Everyone is getting excited around the Northwest because today is the first day of spring. We’re all hoping that sunny weather is not too far away, (fingers crossed). As we start opening windows and doors and the natural light starts pouring in, we notice the dust that has settled over the past season and know that it is time to clean up for the new season.

Along with the sun shedding light on our interior space we notice that our view isn’t quite what it’s supposed to be—the windows need washed!  We checked out diylife.com to learn how to clean windows the natural way.

Here’s the formula that doesn’t include a paper towel or commercial cleaning products:

  • 2 cups hot water
  • ½ cup vinegar (alternatives: lemon juice or club soda)
  • 1 Tablespoon of cornstarch
  • Several sheets of newspaper

Technique matters most and so we’ve also stolen their tips for the method that produces the best result:

  • Eliminate scratches by polishing the scratch with toothpaste
  • Use an old toothbrush or cotton swab to clean corners
  • Give the windows extra shine by polishing with a very clean (but old of course) cotton t-shirt
  • Clean windowsills with a little diluted rubbing alcohol on a cloth—spots will disappear
  • Pick a cloudy day to wash the windows because sunlight will make the windows dry too fast which will leave streaks.  Read more tips at diylife.com.

If cleaning your windows this year just isn’t going to cut it, give us a call.  We’ll help you pick out the right replacement windows for spring that will perfect your view.
