When you invest in new windows and doors, the warranty is an important part of your decision making process. Be sure you know the differences in the types of warranties before you sign on the dotted line for your window or door purchase.

Unlike many other window companies, Milgard windows carry a full lifetime warranty, including parts and labor, for as long as you own your home.  If you sell your home, the warranty is automatically extended for 10 years from the effective date to the successive owners, free of charge.

To help you do a little more homework, we’ve included more information about the differences between the various types of window purchase warranties. You, the purchasing consumer, should know as much as you can about these warranties to ensure you make the best purchase decision:

Q:   Am I buying a “limited” or “full” warranty with my windows?

You'll notice the Milgard residential window warranty is not a “limited warranty” or a “limited lifetime warranty.” It is a “Full Lifetime Warranty” for as long as you own and reside in your home. The distinction here is a full warranty will only meet certain Federal minimum standards for written warranties on consumer products, while limited warranties do not. This means in part, in the case of a full warranty, the warrantor must repair or replace the product(s) at no charge to the consumer. It may also mean the warrantor may ONLY refund the purchase price of the product in fulfillment of the warranty, when this is what the consumer requests.

Q:  Are there any labor costs or service fees associated with repairing or replacing my window package when it is under warranty?

Under a limited warranty, the warrantor may charge service costs and fees related to repair or replacement.

Q:  Does my window package warranty offer replacement product at no charge or a full refund if the product cannot be repaired? And who makes the choice whether I receive a replacement or a refund?

Even if parts and labor are provided at no charge under a limited warranty, the limited warrantor may still reserve the right to refund the purchase price to the consumer in fulfillment of the warranty rather than making the repairs or replacing the products at no charge.
