The early twentieth century brought a style of home to the U.S. that focused on arts and crafts details – the craftsman bungalow. Craftsman homes are sturdy with clean lines and made with natural materials. This architectural style is also known for having a lot of windows allowing for quite a bit of natural light in the home. The best choice for windows in a craftsman home are double hung grid windows in combination with casement/awning or picture windows. Many craftsman homes feature a single upstairs dormer with windows arranged in groups.
Many of these homes also have wide front porches supported by tapered columns. Windows and doors with wood interiors go very well with the bungalow style. Craftsman style doors are also often called “mission” or “shaker” doors, which capture the straight-line design of the craftsman home.
